One critical reason for the widespread, persistent use of anti-gay tactics is typically overlooked. That is, as long as people are afraid of being perceived as gay, they will conform (at least to some degree) to gender rules.
Rules created solely by humans. After all, genuine gender-specific truths don't need to be taught - they are natural.
As long as people will conform to externally imposed gender rules, they can be controlled and kept from discovering the extent of their true power.
Consider this: If no one cared about their sexual orientation, what would be the tool to make people obey gender rules? The tool now is the threat of being not masculine or feminine enough. If you're not manly enough, or womanly enough, then what are you?
Currently, that answer is "gay."
But what if no one really cared about being perceived as gay? Then the gender rules that coerce people into doing what they don't want to, and that prevent people from following their true passions, would fall away. Gender rules convince people that what they perceive, feel or desire is not correct, and that they have to learn how to be female or male. How crazy is that?
We have to learn how to lovingly work with the energy coursing through our bodies, especially when hormones are changing. We benefit from role models of all kinds, who show us what is possible. Sure.
And, if masculity means "what males are" and feminity means "what females are", then anything a male can be or do is "masculine" and anything a female can be or do is "feminine." Since almost everything a human being is capable of can be done by both genders, there is very little that only males or only females can be or do.
When boys grow up in a culture that supports them in staying connected to their feelings and their natural instincts to take care of themselves, boys will see themselves clearly and think for themselves. But they won't make blindly obedient soldiers, workaholics and consumers.
When girls grow up in a culture that values the whole person, instead of focusing primarily on their sexuality, girls will see themselves clearly and think for themselves. But they also won't make blindly obedient soldiers, workaholics and consumers.
When people think for themselves, they are no longer easy to control for one's greed or profit.
GLBT people are a natural varience within the human species. Persecuting gays doesn't benefit anyone except those who cleverly use homophobia to control the masses (80% of which are heterosexual) for their own personal gain.
Homophobia, and all forms of fear, are simply not truth. The Truth is that we are each a living, breathing aspect of Spirit, part of the Ultimate Creator of All Life. Undamaged (and uncensored) we are naturally trusting, loving, generous, creative and joyful.
Life doesn't ask us to censor or limit ourselves - ever! Life says "Be everything you are, even if you're the only one you know like you. Shine your true light, BE the gift you naturally are to the world."
In joy,
